In response, the CSC decided to establish the Building Southmoor Together Task Force that will work over the next three months to address the root causes of concern. The Task Force comprises a diverse group of teachers, staff, parents, and community members that reflect the broader community and all program areas within the school. It is focused on bringing solutions to several key questions:
How can Southmoor best address the needs of all populations under one roof
How can resources be most effectively utilized?
How can we build a more intentional school culture and climate?
This work will involve refining the Southmoor’s mission, addressing enrollment trends and facility use, and exploring models that allow our traditional and HGT programs to best complement each other in support of all Southmoor students. While the Task Force will focus on immediate concerns, a key outcome will also be charting a more strategic course for the next 3-5 years so the school can move from responding to crises to creating a more intentional plan for long term success.
The Timeline
DPS will be making a series of important decisions over the next several months, so the Task Force will be working quickly to ensure that these decisions incorporate the best solutions to the challenges at hand. The Task Force will present initial recommendations on short term issues to the CSC by late February, and then work on a longer-range plan for Southmoor to be completed by late April.
The committee consists of several teachers, several parents, Mr. Burger, and Bill Fulton (a professional facilitator). Full details can be found here.
